Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is "the essence of the territory", the wine which better represents the company’s close bond with the Valpolicella Classica valley, its tradition, and the uniqueness of its clay and marl soils.
Its blend is made of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta local varieties carefully hand picked and put on drying for 3/4 months, meanwhile the grapes concentrate all their richness.
In the end of a long processing the wine ages in barrique first and large oak barrels then for about 48 months totally.
Amarone Classico is structured but also fresh at the same time. It is a product with great personality that manages to communicate its elegance during the tasting. You can perceive an intense and persistent perfume of cherries, cocoa, tobac-co and black pepper. On the palate it is complex and deep, elegant and robust at the same time, harmonious and with an excellent tannin. This wine has been aged in Salvaterra’s location inside Villa Giona’s estate, a historical, sixteenth century residence, which is among the most attractive in the Valpolicella Classica valley.
A perfect, living representation of the land on which it was built, the villa is encircled by cypresses, olive trees, dry stone walls, and vineyards and is home to an ancient wine cellar where the ageing of Amarone wine actually takes place.
The rooms that were once used as a greenhouse, and later a winery, are now the shop and the tasting room, decorated and furnished in recovered natural materials.
As well as creating the space we needed to produce our wines, we have also been careful to preserve the original beauty of the external and internal areas, consolidating the role that Salvaterra has taken on, over the years, as a guardian of public assets.
