Atkinsons 1799 The Other Side Of Oud 100ml EDP
The Oud Collection captures that idyllic chapter in history when two great civilizations, England and the East, were perfectly intertwined. Imbued with the romantic intrigue of the desert, among sheikhs, kings, and emissaries, this rare and noble oud collection is as British as it is exotic, like the luminous figures who inspired it: the dashing Crown Prince Mohammed Ali Ibrahim (and his beloved Mabel Normand, the Hollywood enchantress), Gertrude Bell, the Victorian Queen of the Desert, and Faisal I, the legendary Arab king.
Behind the unmistakable scent of oud, infused with amber, warm spices and animal notes, what else lies?
The Other Side of Oud eau de parfum unveils the unexpected and explores the contrast between the toasty and fresh facets of oud. Powerfully evocative, this epic fragrance encapsulates the essence of an intrepid leap into a new and wondrous era, masterfully combining the classic woody notes of oud with modern and exciting elements to create a new and surprising interpretation.
The Other Side of Oud is as magnetic and fascinating as the Prince who inspired it. Destined from birth to be a leader, Hussein Bin Ali, Sharif of Mecca, dreamed of an independent and unified Arab state. In the early 20th century, Prince Hussein visited King George V with the goal of gaining British political recognition of the Arab state. Loyal, courageous and determined, Prince Hussein skillfully negotiated with King George V, agreeing to help Britain in the war against Turkey in exchange for the desired recognition.
Before his return to Amman, Prince Hussein visited Atkinsons Maison and, intoxicated by the rich nuances of the fragrances and moved by a desire to celebrate the pact that would create an independent Arab state, decided to commission a new fragrance. A charismatic oriental perfume created by a British perfumer would be the symbol of the newly formed union between the Middle East and Europe.
The Prince's terms were clear: the fragrance had to be modern, penetrating and intriguing, but retain a distinctive heart of oud. His vision materialized into a unique bouquet, a fascinating balance of opposites, an intriguing harmony between tradition and modernity.
Created by perfumers Maurice Roucel and Pierre Guéros, The Other Side of Oud opens with a surprising spicy encounter between warm cinnamon, fresh cardamom, and juicy ginger. The heart then reveals a bloom of oud flanked by a bouquet of geranium and coffee flowers, before giving way to a base of vibrant roasted coffee, velvety vanilla absolute, and smoky frankincense that completes this fragrance of independence.
