The Oud Collection captures that idyllic chapter in time when two great civilizations, England and the Orient, were perfectly entwined. Redolent of the romantic desert intrigue of sheikhs, kings, and emissaries, these rare and noble ouds are as British and exotic as the luminaries who inspired them: the dashing Crown Prince Mohammed Ali Ibrahim (and his beloved Mabel Normand, the Hollywood enchantress) Gertrude Bell, the Victorian queen of the desert, and Faisal I, the legendary Arabian King. Behind the exquisite smell of oud, infused with amber, warm spices and animalic notes, what else is hidden? The Other side of Oud eau de parfum reveals the unexpected and explores the contrast between the roasted and fresh facets of oud. Powerfully evocative, this epic fragrance encompasses the integral essences of an intrepid leap into a new, wondrous era, masterfully combining the classic woody notes of oud with modern, exciting elements to create a new and striking interpretation. The Other Side of Oud is as magnetic and captivating as the Prince who inspired it. Destined from birth to be a leader, Hussein Bin Ali, Sharif Of Mecca, envisioned a single, independent and unified Arab State. In the early stages of the 20th century Prince Hussain visited King George V, his mission being to earn British political recognition of the Arab state. Loyal, courageous and fierce, Prince Hussein shrewdly negotiated with King George V, accepting his request to aid Britain in the war against Turkey in return for the recognition he desired. Before his return to Amman, Prince Hussein visited Atkinsons House and, inebriated by the rich nuances of scents and driven by the desire to celebrate the pact from which an Independent Arab State would be born, Prince Hussein decided to commission a new fragrance. A charismatic Oriental scent made by a British perfumer would be a symbol of the new-found union between the Middle East and Europe. The Prince’s commission conditions were clear: the fragrance should be modern, penetrating and intriguing but still preserve a distinct heart of oud. His vision manifested in a unique bouquet, a captivating blend of opposites, an intriguing balance between tradition and modernity. Created by perfumers Maurice Roucel and Pierre Guéros, The Other side of Oud starts out with a surprising spicy encounter between warm cinnamon, fresh cardamom and juicy ginger at the top. The heart then reveals a blooming oud blend alongside a bouquet of geranium and coffee flowers before giving way to a dry-down of vibrant roasted coffee, mellow vanilla absolute and smoked incense that rounds out this scent of independence.
