Made from 100% hand-harvested Blue Weber agave, Espolòn Añejo Tequila is created from start to finish at our Casa San Nicolás distillery, located in the prestigious Los Altos (Highlands) De Jalisco area of Mexico. Espolòn Blanco Tequila is created using a unique combination of traditional and modern methods and is the brainchild of our late creator and Maestro Tequilero, Cirilo Oropeza.
To create our Reposado Tequila, we use only mineral-rich water taken from our natural well located below the distillery. We hand-pick 100% Blue Weber agaves and steam them in our custom-made stainless steel autoclaves. We then add a touch of art to the science and listen to classical music while the yeasts work during fermentation. Cirilo believed that this aided yeast activation through the vibrations of the sound waves of music. Next, we double distill our tequila using a combination of column and pot still stills to give it a perfectly smooth and balanced flavor profile. Finally, we age the tequila for at least 11 months in new American oak barrels and finish it for at least 1 month in ex-bourbon barrels to create a perfectly balanced, complex and rounded character.
In this way we create an authentic, medium- to full-bodied Mexican aged tequila with a brilliant red-gold color. Our Añejo tequila has a complex balance of toasted agave and wood, with hints of dried fruits and caramel.
We bottle our Añejo Tequila in our exclusive bottle (inspired by traditional Mexican milk bottles) with a distinctive label inspired by the works of a famous Mexican artist, José Guadalupe Posada.
Created to be sipped, Espolòn Añejo Tequila is perfect on its own or on the rocks, but it can also be enjoyed in cocktails, as a reinterpretation of a classic, the Añejo Old Fashioned. Espolòn Tequila Añejo won gold at the 2020 New York International Spirits Competition and was among the top 10 best-selling and trendiest tequilas according to Drink International 2021.
