Automatic watches originated in the 18th century and are characterized by winding themselves using the natural movement of the arm. Currently, many manufactures produce their own automatic gauges to animate watches.

An automatic movement is the movement of a mechanical watch powered by the movements of the wearer's wrist. An oscillating mass, rotor, rotates freely around an axis, and any movement helps to wind the spring, the source of energy, thus increasing the power reserve.
